Why should you invest in a newborn session?
Welcoming a baby into the world is a truly miraculous experience, one that can be captured forever through a newborn session. Believe me when I say, they grow up ridiculously fast! In the blink of an eye, they'll be taking their first steps and uttering their first words, leaving you wondering where the time went. A newborn session is the perfect opportunity to capture their precious early moments, preserving all those tiny details that make them so precious. It's a chance to create lasting memories and treasure those fleeting stages for a lifetime.
Before your session & when to book
The ideal time to secure your newborn session is after your 12-week scan. It's important to book as soon as possible to ensure availability, as waiting until after the baby is born may mean I have limited or even no availability. When you make your booking, we will pencil in your session for approximately one week after your due date. Of course, we can adjust the date if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected.
I recommended that the session takes place before the baby reaches two weeks of age, as they are usually sleepier and more easily posed during this period. However, newborn sessions can still be done after two weeks, although the earlier timeframe is most optimal.
After you've booked your session, I will send you a questionnaire via email. This questionnaire allows you to specify your exact preferences for the newborn session and provides helpful information on how to prepare beforehand. It ensures that we tailor the session to meet your specific desires and helps you make the most out of this special experience.
During The Session
During each newborn session, I incorporate a diverse range of poses and props, including wraps, outfits, and some nude shots. My approach is very flexible, allowing the session to be guided by the baby's needs and cues. There will be lots of time for feeding and settling whenever necessary, as it is common for babies to require more frequent feeding during the session.
All my newborn packages include the option for family images. While some parents may initially prefer to focus solely on baby, I encourage capturing precious family moments as well. I have found that those who have been initially hesitant about family photos have ultimately expressed their gratitude for having them included. However, I respect individual preferences, and if you prefer to have the session solely focused on baby, that is perfectly fine. My aim is to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
If you have siblings coming along to the session click here to see some local places that might be worth a visit with a parent or other family member. Newborn sessions can be up to 4 hours long, which can be a bit boring for siblings once family shots are done with. I have listed various places that I would personally recommend. Click here to view.
After The Session
After the session, we will book an appointment for your viewing session in a couple weeks time so that you can come back into the studio to view your gallery. I’ll make you a cuppa and you can sit and view your gallery as a beautiful slideshow on the tv. We can talk about which images are your favourites and decide what package you’d like to go for and if there’s any prints or wall art you’d like, to be able to display the images in your home .

When should I book the session?
You can book anytime after your 12 week scan! The sooner the better to avoid disappointment as if you wait until baby is born I may not be able to fit you in.
What should we do in preparation of the session?
There are a few things you can do to help the session go as smoothly as possible.
Firstly, dress baby in nice loose clothes, such as a baby grow. No socks or tight vests and don’t fasten their nappy too tight. This is to avoid lines on their skin.
Try to keep baby awake for at least 1 to 2 hours before the session. This will make it easier to capture those sleepy images! Try giving them a bath and interacting with them to keep them a wake and feed them just before you leave for the studio. Don’t panic if this doesn't go to plan, it just helps to get them in a sleepy milk drunk state when they arrive.
If your baby uses a dummy, bring it along!
What if my baby poops, pees or pukes on your things?
This actually happens more times than not so don't worry! Everything is washed after every session, and I'm always prepared for it to happen. I am actually more shocked to get through a session without this happening!
Do I have to pay a booking fee?
Yes, I require a £75 booking fee to secure your booking. This comes off your total and the remaining balance doesn't need to be paid until the day of your session.
What is the ideal age for a newborn session?
Under 2 weeks is the ideal age, however the sessions are doable after this age also. After 2 weeks may just have to be more limited posing but it really differs and depends on baby.
Do we need to bring anything?
You don't 'need' to bring anything (other than milk & dummy if baby has these). However, if you do have any sentimental items or outfits you'd like incorporated you can absolutely bring these along. Please just make sure to let me know before hand as I plan and set up my sessions in advance.
Will my images be shared on social media?
Only if you want them to be! I love sharing my work on my socials, but I will only ever share images if I’m given permission to do so. I 100% respect those that want to keep their gallery totally private. It’s also perfectly okay to want some to be shared but others not. I respect your choices, whatever they may be.
If you are happy for your images to be shared on social media, you will have a sneak peek posted within a few days of your session and have the opportunity to win it as a free print based on the amount of reactions it receives!
