Birth Photography

Why should you invest in a birth photographer?

As a mother of two, I appreciate what a breath taking and unforgettable experience giving birth is . It is such an honour for me to be able to capture women during the most intimate yet empowering moments, and to provide them with timeless photographs that will be cherished for a lifetime.

The Consultation

A consultation is extremely important! This is the opportunity for us to get to know each other and we can discuss more about what birth photography entails and you can ask any questions you may have. I'm going to be present during one of the most personal moments of your life, so this is a really important step to discuss all your expectations and boundaries. It is also great for us to get to know each other better in general and to make sure we are a good fit. I would advise you bring your birthing partner along, whether that be your partner or someone else. After all, they will likely be the person I communicate most with when the time comes, so I think it’s important for us to get to know each other too.

On Call

Premium & Luxe Package:

With either of these packages, I will be on call 24/7 from 38 weeks until your baby is born. I prioritize being fully prepared and flexible, ensuring that I can adjust my schedule at a moment's notice. Rest assured, I'll be ready and eager to capture the special moments whenever they arise.

Classic Package:

Please note that the Classic package does not include an on-call service. While I will make every effort to attend your birth and keep my schedule open, there may be situations where I am unable to be present. In such cases, I will offer a fresh 48 session as an alternative.

What is a fresh 48 session?

A fresh 48 session takes place in the comfort of your home within the first 48 hours after your baby's birth. It provides an opportunity to capture those precious early moments when your baby is still "fresh" and the joy of introducing them to your family. If you decide to have a newborn session as well, you will notice a remarkable difference between the fresh 48 images and the newborn portraits. Babies grow and change so quickly during this time, making the fresh 48 session an invaluable way to preserve those fleeting moments.

Labour

I will arrive once you are in established labour, although its always best to keep me in the loop from the very beginning of the slightest twinge. This means I can make sure I am prepared for when things start to speed up. Upon my arrival, I'll introduce myself to anyone I haven't met, including midwives. I will try to be as discreet and unobtrusive as I can be and respect the presence of other individuals in the room and work around them as needed.

My role goes beyond photography. I'm here to offer additional support as well. Whether it's fetching you a drink, snacks, or providing comfort with a cooling flannel, I'm ready to assist you in any way you need. Count on me to be there by your side, offering my support throughout this remarkable experience.

After Birth

After the birth, I'll remain by your side for around 1-2 hours, capturing those precious first moments and preserving every little detail of your newborn. Witnessing the incredible bond between parents and baby is truly unforgettable, and I consider it an honour to create beautiful images from these intimate moments.

Once I have taken all the images needed, I'll leave you to relish in the joy of your newborn bundle. I'll be sure to share some sneak peeks with you within a couple days, giving you a glimpse of the beautiful images to come. Your complete gallery will be delivered to you via digital download within 3 weeks, ensuring you have a full collection of cherished memories to treasure.

Testimonials

Beth

"Couldn’t thank Jade enough for capturing my Home Birth! We didn’t know how we’d feel having someone capturing our most vulnerable moments but Jade was so professional and made us feel completely at ease! The photos turned out better than we could have ever imagined. If anyone is considering having a birth photographer, I’d highly recommend Jade!"

FAQ

How long will you be with us in total?

Impossible to say! It will vary birth to birth but I will arrive once you are in active labour and stay until 1-2 hours after baby is born. It could be a total of 4 hours, it could be 20!

What if I’m having my baby at the hospital?

This is fine, but you need to speak to your midwife openly about it as hospitals have different policies and procedures in regards to birth photography. You also need to consider that the hospital may want to class me as a birth partner to restrict the number of people present. Most hospitals allow 2 birth partners meaning you would only be allowed one other person if having me as a photographer.

Will you be photographing ‘the business end’?

If you want me to I will, if you don’t then I won’t. This is the kind of thing we would discuss during a consultation, so that we can talk through all your boundaries and expectations.

What if I labour at night or the lighting is poor?

This is one of the things we will discuss at your consultation.

I have the option to use flash but this is entirely your choice. If I do use flash I make sure its turned down low and I never directly flash at the subject, but bounce it off ceilings or walls.

If you would rather me not use flash this is totally fine, it may jut mean your images are of a more grainy appearance. Grainy images are still a beautifully timeless style.

You can also change your mind at any point!

What happens if you are unable to attend or miss the birth?

Firstly, know that I will try my absolute hardest to be able to attend any birth! However we never know 100% what will happen or what circumstances may come into play.

If baby has already been born when I arrive I will continue with the postpartum aspect of the session such as weighing baby, cutting cord, first moments with parents ect.

If I am unable to attend due to circumstances such as an illness I will source another photographer to attend.

Will my images be shared on social media?

Only if you want them to be! I love sharing my work on my socials, but I will only ever share images if I’m given permission to do so. Birth photography, especially, is such a personal session and I 100% respect those that want to keep them totally private. It’s also perfectly okay to want some to be shared but others not. I respect your choices, whatever they may be.

Do I have to pay a booking fee?

Yes, I require a £250 booking fee upon booking, this is non-refundable. The remaining balance needs to be paid by 36 weeks gestation.

Will all my images be sent in black & white?

Your gallery will consist of both colour and black & white images, but the majority will be black & white. It is my preferred editing style with birth photography as it gives a more timeless feel to the images.
